Every international learning experience provides an opportunity not only to acquire knowledge but also to broaden perspectives, strengthen professional competence, and build lasting friendships across cultures. My participation in the Seminar on Cross-border E-Commerce and Talent Development for Bangladesh, held in the People's Republic of China from 16 to 29 June 2026, was precisely such an experience. More than a professional training programme, it was an inspiring journey of learning, innovation, cultural exchange and personal growth that significantly enhanced my understanding of digital transformation, cross-border e-commerce, and international cooperation.
As an Assistant Programmer, I have always believed that technology plays a vital role in improving governance and public service delivery. The seminar offered an exceptional opportunity to understand how China has developed one of the world's most advanced cross-border e-commerce ecosystems through technology, innovation, supportive policies, and industrial development.
Our journey began on 15 June 2026, when our delegation arrived in Ürümqi, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. From the very beginning, the organizers demonstrated remarkable professionalism and hospitality. Every aspect of the programme—from accommodation and transportation to interpretation and academic coordination—was carefully organized, allowing participants to focus entirely on learning and cultural exchange.
The first phase of the seminar is about the academic sessions and the practical field visits. These sessions provided valuable insights into the strategic planning and long-term vision that have transformed China into a global leader in economic growth and technological innovation. Understanding this development model helped us appreciate the strong foundation supporting China's digital economy.
A unique strength of the seminar was its balanced combination of classroom learning and practical field visits. We observed how farmers, logistics providers, and digital marketplaces work together through advanced supply chains, intelligent warehousing, and quality management systems to connect agricultural products with both domestic and international markets. This visit illustrated how digital transformation can improve productivity, expand market access, and promote sustainable rural development.
Subsequent lectures explored the current status and future prospects of digital trade and examined how cross-border e-commerce is reshaping global business. Particularly impressive were the sessions on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its application in logistics, customer service, demand forecasting, multilingual communication, and business decision-making. These discussions demonstrated that AI has become an essential driver of modern commerce and inspired me to consider its potential application in Bangladesh's public service and consumer protection systems.
Another informative lecture explained China's successful cross-border e-commerce ecosystem and highlighted the importance of coordinated government policies, digital infrastructure, supportive regulations, technological innovation, and collaboration between academia and industry. It became evident that sustainable digital transformation requires not only technology but also visionary leadership, institutional capacity, and continuous investment in human resources.
One of the seminar's most inspiring sessions was the case study entitled "E-commerce Supports Rural Revitalization." It demonstrated how digital commerce has empowered rural communities by increasing farmers' incomes, creating employment opportunities, and expanding access to domestic and international markets. This practical example clearly showed how technology can contribute to inclusive economic development while reducing regional disparities.
Beyond formal learning, I was fascinated by China's highly developed digital lifestyle. Throughout our stay, mobile payments, QR code-based services, online shopping, and intelligent public services were seamlessly integrated into everyday life. Experiencing the JD E-Commerce platform firsthand gave me practical insight into China's efficient online retail ecosystem, demonstrating how technology enhances convenience, consumer satisfaction, and business efficiency.
The second phase of the seminar took us to Hangzhou, one of China's leading centres of innovation and digital entrepreneurship. The city itself reflected a remarkable balance between technological advancement and sustainable urban development.
One of the most inspiring visits during our stay in Hangzhou was to the Zhejiang University Forest Science & Innovation Park. The visit to the Zhejiang University Forest Science & Innovation Park highlighted the importance of research, innovation, and collaboration between academia and industry. It demonstrated how universities contribute to technological advancement, entrepreneurship, and sustainable economic development through research commercialization and talent development.
The seminar also provided opportunities to experience China's rich cultural heritage. A peaceful boat ride on the beautiful West Lake offered a memorable glimpse into China's history, culture, and natural beauty. Later, our visit to Xixi National Wetland Park demonstrated the country's strong commitment to environmental conservation alongside sustainable tourism and urban development.
After returning to Ürümqi, the remaining academic sessions focused on intellectual property protection, talent development, the Silk Road E-commerce Initiative, and Xinjiang's strategic role as a gateway connecting China with Central Asia and Europe. These lectures emphasized the importance of innovation, regional cooperation, digital infrastructure, and supportive public policies in strengthening international trade.
Another unforgettable experience was our visit to the Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar, where traditional culture, commerce, tourism, and entrepreneurship coexist harmoniously. Observing local handicrafts, cultural performances, and vibrant commercial activities illustrated how cultural heritage itself can become an important driver of economic development when supported by modern marketing and tourism.
Throughout the seminar, I was deeply impressed not only by China's technological achievements but also by its modern infrastructure, efficient public transportation, disciplined society, clean cities, and widespread adoption of digital technologies. From mobile payments and smart public services to well-planned urban environments, I experienced how digital innovation has become an integral part of everyday life.
Equally impressive was the professionalism of the professors, interpreters, coordinators, and support staff. Their dedication, expertise, and hospitality created an outstanding learning environment where every participant felt welcomed and respected. Beyond the formal sessions, conversations during meals, travel, and cultural activities fostered meaningful friendships and strengthened professional networks among participants from Bangladesh.
The Graduation Ceremony and Farewell Lunch marked the successful conclusion of this memorable journey. Receiving the certificate represented not only the completion of a training programme but also a renewed commitment to applying the knowledge gained for the benefit of my institution and my country.
Reflecting on this experience, I firmly believe that the seminar has significantly enriched both my professional knowledge and strategic perspective. The insights gained from China's advanced cross-border e-commerce ecosystem, digital trade policies, AI-driven business solutions, smart logistics, innovation, intellectual property protection, and consumer-oriented digital services have provided valuable lessons directly relevant to my responsibilities. These experiences have strengthened my commitment to supporting Bangladesh's digital transformation by promoting a more efficient, transparent, secure, and consumer-centric e-commerce ecosystem while fostering greater cooperation between Bangladesh and China in the digital economy.
More importantly, this seminar highlighted that China's success in cross-border e-commerce is built upon the strategic integration of technology, innovation, supportive policies, and institutional collaboration.
Beyond the academic knowledge I gained, China itself left a profound impression on me. I admired its ability to preserve its rich cultural heritage while leading the world in technological innovation. From the breathtaking landscapes of Xinjiang to the timeless beauty of West Lake, from advanced industrial parks to vibrant traditional markets, every destination reflected a nation that successfully balances tradition with modernization. The warmth of its people, the efficiency of its public services, and the spirit of innovation made this journey truly unforgettable.
I express my sincere gratitude to the Government of the People's Republic of China, the organizing institution, all distinguished professors, coordinators, interpreters, and support staff for their exceptional dedication and hospitality. Their efforts transformed this seminar into an intellectually enriching and personally rewarding experience while strengthening the friendship and cooperation between Bangladesh and China.
Looking back, I realize that the greatest achievement of this journey was not merely the knowledge I acquired but the broader perspective it inspired. I returned to Bangladesh carrying not only valuable professional knowledge but also renewed motivation, lasting friendships, and a stronger commitment to applying these experiences in serving my country.
China welcomed me as a learner, inspired me as a professional, and left me with memories and lessons that I will carry throughout my life. My learning journey in China will always remain one of the most meaningful chapters of my professional life. The knowledge, experiences, friendships, and inspiration I gained will continue to inspire me to contribute to the advancement of cross-border e-commerce, digital trade, consumer protection, and innovation in Bangladesh while further deepening the enduring friendship and cooperation between Bangladesh and China.
